Chairman Balawaristan National Front Abdul Hamid Khan's address to BNSO 1st Historical Convention Lahore First of all, let me welcome and congratulate you for launching a struggle from the platform of Balawaristan National Students Organization (BNSO) for the independence, well-being,peace and international identity for your nation, and hope that you will succeed in your mission. My young brothers, first of all I would like to inform you why we declared independence; what were and are the reasons behind it. What is freedom, whether freedom is just Roti, Kapda aur Makan (bread, clothing and shelter) which some people claim. I would like to also inform those brothers and sisters who are not present here today that there was no sentimental element behind the declaration of freedom but historical, cultural and geographical reasons as well as Pakistani rulers' injustices and tyrannical behaviour since November 16, 1947 were behind the move. Ironically, the Pakistani rulers in thier tyrany have even gone ahead of the Dogra and British rulers of the area before 1947. The present rulers have never taken a single local on board in the decision-making process. They have even considered democracy as a forbidden tree for our people. Besides, to prolong their rule they pitched one brother against another by dividing them on sectarian lines. Due to these reasons, the Balawaristan National Front (BNF) started its struggle for freedom in the year 1992. As far as bread, clothes and house are concerned it is a deceitful slogan which has in reality no relation with freedom. Had it been a substitute for freedom, the British government's offer to provide these necessities to the people of India after the Quit India Movement of Congress had satisfied the Indians. Even today in every prison of the world, bread, clothes and shelter are freely provided to the inmates and if it is a substitute to freedom why the rulers of Pakistan do not offer their freedom to a rich nation who could guarantee them these facilities. "Balawaristan's problem is freedom, not bread, clothes and shelter." We want to run all our affairs by ourselves and want to be the owner of our own house, because for the last over 60 years we have remained slaves of others who have turned this 28,000 square miles area into a prison for its inhabitants. Today not only Pakistan is plundering our resources but also distributing it among other countries like China as well. Anyone raising voice against these injustices is thrown into jail and tortured. The example of Gandayi-Yasen is in front of you, where innocent people protesting for their rights have been put behind bars and are being tortured. By constructing the Skardu, Bhunji and Bhasha dams, the occupation regimeis trying to destroy our geography and culture. We will not allow Pakistan to develop at the cost of Balawaristan. The political speech of Force Commander Northern Areas (FCNA) at Hondoor in Yasen on Sptember 6 2008 is an eye-opener for the new PPP government. It also negates the decision of Pakistan Army COAS Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to keep the army aloof from politics. "As no word or promise is an Quranic ayat or hadis during the Zardari rule, the FCNA had perhaps also made the speech regardless of his boss' decision." Maj-Gen Muzammil Hussain not only declared Gilgit-Baltistan as part of Pakistan but also added that those opposing the fact were enemies of Pakistan. This means that all army heads of Pakistan including General Kayani, Pakistan'spresidents, prime ministers and other leaders were enemies of Pakistan, according to Gen Muzammil. The said general also threatened the people of Gilgit-Baltistan by giving an example of Waziristan. Pakistan Army should be ashamed of itself because first of all it used the people of Bajaur, Waziristan, Dir and Swat terming them mujahideen in killing innocent people and now dropping bombs on them terming them terrorists. It seems Pakistan army also plans to drop bombs on Gilgit-Baltistan on the pretext of terrorism, so that after crashing the political resistance of the locals they could build the dams and also deploy their two additional divisionsArmy in the area to protect Dams. However, the world is not so fool. As far as coming to Hondoor on September 6 in connection with Lalek Jan is concerned, it was only due to the frustration because of the movement of the BNF, otherwise Lalak Jan neither born nor martyred on September 6. Lalak Jan braced martyrdom during June-July 1999 war which the Pakistan army pretended to hide from the world by putting it on the shoulders of the so-called mujahideen. Moreover, not one but over 3,000 Lalek Jans were martyred during the war, why they were not given the respect they deserve. Why their dead bodies were left on Kargil mountains and those of the Pakistani nationals were brought back. If the FCNA is really sympathetic to the NLI, he should withdraw NLI personnel from Waziristan, Swat and Balochistan and deploy them in Gilgit-Baltistan. Had the FCNA been so sincere, people from Punjab and other areas would not have been recruited in NLI to turn the local youth into a minority. I Appeal to you, the youth, to convey my message to each home and each individual and continue peaceful struggle for freedom and invite every brother and sister to join this caravan. Through you I also appeal to the students of the region to study the culture, history, geography and resources of Balawaristan (Pakistan Occupied Gilgit Baltistan) along side your syllabus and also study the resolutions of the United Nations, so that you may lead your people properly.
