ISLAMABAD:
Northern Areas should be included in Azad Kashmir and given representation in the Azad Kasmrit Legislative Assembly and Council. The peace agreement signed by two religious parties in 2005 should be implemented in letter and spirit in order to maintain peace in the region. This was stated by central mosque, Gilgit, Khateeb Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmed, Amir Ittehad Ulema Council Nortehrn Areas Maulana Sanaullah, Qari Attaur Rehman, Mufti Riaz Mansoor and Maulana Ghulam Rasool Nasir while speaking at a newspaper forum here.
They said Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir were a geographical unity and the government of Pakistan had also accepted the fact in various world forums saying that the Northern Areas is part of Kashmir and the people of this region would take part in any future plebiscite on the issue of Kashmir.
They said instead of keeping the region without a constitution in the 21st century, it would be better to give the area representation in the Azad Kashmir Council and Assembly. Besides, the jurisdiction of Azad Kashmir Supreme Court and High Court should also be extended to the Northern Areas. These steps would be helpful in resolving the problems of the people, they added.
They said a peace agreement had been signed in 2005 between two religious parties in Gilgit to maintain peace in the region. Later, it was also endorsed by the legislative council and backed by the president and prime minister during the opening of work on the Bhasha Dam. However, they added, the Northern Areas administration has so far failed to implement the agreement in the area. As a result, law and order situation in the region has remained fragile and the writ of the government has not been restored.
They said due to lack of basic facilities like education, health care, etc. people of the region were facing numerous problems while the local administration and the federal government had failed to take any tangible step to ameliorate the public sufferings. They said government officials sent to the area on deputation just passed their time and returned to their areas without taking care of people’s woes. They asked the government to take practical steps to resolve the issues of the area and end deprivation among the masses.geovisit(); <img src="http://visit.webhosting.yahoo.com/visit.gif?us1221932951" alt="setstats" border="0" width="1" height="1">
