RAWALPINDI: The exiled Chairman of Balawaristan National Front (BNF), Mr Abdul Hamid Khan, has said by writing a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, he has presented the case of Gilgit-Baltistan in the court of one of the most just adjudicators of the country who has always stood for rule of law and people' rights.
Addressing his party workers on the phone from Brusseles, Mr Khan said the letter contained the details about the story of injustices and cruelties perpetrated on the two million people of Gilgit-Baltistan for the last over six decades.
Through the letter, Mr Khan has prayed the court to take notice of the injustices and inhuman treatment meted out to the indigenous people as well as violations of human rights and international laws by the successive Pakistani regimes. The chief justice has been reminded that the case of Gilgit-Baltistan had been put into the cold storage under a well-hatched conspiracy to keep the people of the region deprived of their rights and plunder their resources.
The BNF chief in his letter pointed out that whenever any son of the soil tried to raise voice against the injustices, Pakistan's secret agencies implicated them in false cases in order to silence them. He said the nationalist parties in the region were pushed to the wall so that the occupation of the region and loot and plunder of its natural resources could continue without any resistance. "Under these circumstances, I decided to raise the case of the oppressed people of Gilgit-Baltistan with the chief justice."
He said Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry is known the world over for his unflinching and bold stance against a powerful dictator, rule of law and provision of justice to the oppressed, and the case of Gilgit-Baltistan will be litmus test for him whether he also puts it into the cold storage or seeks reply from the government of Pakistan by demonstrating his usual courage and boldness.
The BNF chief on the occasion reiterated his resolve that he would do whatever is possible to fulfil his objective for which he had left his homeland and was compelled to live the life of asylum abroad for the last over 10 years. He said the filing of the case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan through a letter in the name of its chief justice was also aimed at achieving the objective. Besides, he added, he would continue raising the case of his nation at all international forums too.
Mr Khan also expressed the hope that his efforts for the cause of the nation would soon bring fruits. Soon, he added, the international community would start taking notice of the injustices done with the people of the two million people and the rampant human rights violations in the region.
Mr Khan said that if he wanted, even today he can enter into a bargain with the secret agencies of Pakistan and have a comfortable and luxuries life at his own soil but his conscience would never allow this and he would continue rendering whatever sacrifice the nation deserved and he has left the country after burning all boats in order to fight for the rights of the Blore nation. Now there is no other option except full freedom for the people of the region, he declared.
He also said that the copy of the letters sent to the chief justice of Pkaistan had been forwarded to the Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Pir Karam Ali Shah and if the altter has any courage and sympathy with the Blore nation he would answer the contents of the letter.
It may be noted that the exiled chairman of the BNF has made the governor, chief minister, inspector general of police, chief secretary and the federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan as respondents.
It is for the first time that any indigenous resident of Gilgit-Baltistan has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the violations of human rights and injustices with the people of the region. The 200-page letter sent through an email from Brussels has highlighted all the factors and circumstances relating to the issue of Gilgit-Baltistan.
It is being expected that the chief justice of Pakistan will provide justice to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. However, it is also necessary for the people of the region to witness the proceeding in a large number and provide all the material and proofs to the court if it asks for any. The masses of the region should realize it a golden opportunity to present their grievances before the apex court so that they can get rid of the injustices which they have been facing for the last over six decades.
