Pakistan faces flood threat, says study PDF Print E-mail

The article is an eye opener for those who desire to construct large dams in Gilgit Baltistan. A 100-km long water reservoir in Diamer alone will increase humidity to unprecedented level and a steep rise in overall temperature. The rapid glacial melt will then create hundreds of GLOFs in the region spreading over 76,000 square kilometers. Once burst, water from the glacial lakes will rush into the valleys destroying human dwellings, pastures, forest reserves and farms. Dishonest leadership of Pakistan is practically destroying the land of GB and the cultural and economic future of coming generations to promote short term interests of Punjab.

Pakistan faces flood threat, says study

Pakistan has been warned of frequent floods of disastrous nature like the ones that battered the country in 2010 and 2011 in the Indus river owing to rapid glacier retreat and shifting of monsoonal zones by about 100 kilometres towards northwest regions.
